Good morning all, what i need to know is do you need a SHM-CD player to get the full benefit of the disc's or can this be obtained thru a regular cdp ?.

I have a couple of SHMs and they play fine on a standard CD player. They do sound very good.

It's about the difference in the way the disc is made rather than the player that you use, as I understand it. They use a different type of material for the actual outer disc layers and the pits are more precisely located and have crisper edges. ...or something like that.

If you can hear any audible differences it has cock all to with disc manufacturing, and everything to do with remastering

You say sucker mate, have you had any experience with sacd's ? I was nicely surprise with a couple of disc's but I don't think it's worth the crazy prices they charge for them

But yes, I have had some SACDs. Must admit to not being too excited about them!

It's the version Martin Turner remixed and made a proper dog's breakfast of.
Comes in SHM-CD, SHM-SACD, and plain vanilla versions. This is one turd that is best avoided.
If you have it and like it you need to go and get your ears tested. You could put the disc to good use and hang it off one of the plants in the garden to scare cats or birds away

The version on Qobuz is mixed by Martin Birch.

Martin Birch was the studio recording engineer on the sessions. The producer was Derek Lawrence.

Got a few SHM rips, most sound very good, but as Chris says, most likely down to the original mastering.0

One thing I have learned about digital playback is that everything matters, but especially jitter. The SHM material is designed to improve laser read reliability and the strength of the reflected signal. The best SACD I ever bought was an SHM one, and boy it sounded good.
Search for SHM CD on eBay, Tim, there are quite a few on offer.
