A little while ago I spent £12.99 (inc P & P) on a TPA3116 chip amp. I already had a good quality 24v power supply so all I had to do was add input and output connectors and wire in the PSU.

Now, to my old ears, it sounds pretty good, much better than the last T amp I had.

Looking on Ebay just now the price has gone down to £9.99, what a bargain for 50w.

As an experiment I replaced the 24V power supply with my 0-12v DC bench supply and it sounded just as good at 12v, and indeed kept going as I wound the voltage down and only stopped working at a gnats under 5v, so the PSU voltage is not critical unless you need the full 50w.

Interesting, Philip. I find that even the higher voltage (14V) of the TA-2021 based T-Amp I have on this here PC runs out of juice too quickly, going into that horrible limited shouty sound that they do when they're stressed. This is for near-field listening!

I've not come across the TPA3116 before, but 24V rail sounds perfect so I shall look it up.
