Great news! The legend that is Ivo Pogorelich is back in the studio after 24 years. He has signed with Sony Classical and his first release will be Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Sonata coupled with two by Beethoven, No 22 in F, Op 54 and No 24 in F sharp, Op 78. Fair to say I think that as a young man he was one of the most feted performers of his generation; I hope we will also have the chance to see him on stage as well before too long. Full details here.

Back in the day, I somehow managed to pass him by. ... I'm having a listen now to some of his old recordings.

Honest to God, when I first saw this thread I thought you meant the dance.

I saw him back in the day. Can't for the life of me remember what he played but it would have been one of the big concertos. He was another future great who burned out, probably because of the hype surrounding him.

Interesting piece in the NY Times hereYes I'm sure he would have had enough of all the hype back then and am sure losing his wife in '96 would have been a factor.
