I'd go for the NovaFidelity but then I am slightly biased owning an X40 myself. Paul What do you do with it ? Is that less or more than you expected to do ? Not a trick question. I listen to it, import CDs, listen to CDs, listen to Spotify and Digital Radio Stations. It’s an excellent piece of kit, very versatile.

Can you play back YouTube sensibly from a decent search ? My PC delivers much more and more flexibly than Volumio The biggest attraction is to RIP my reel to reel tapes to file. Downside of that is the time it will take. Months and months at a sensible pace. Weeks if I devote myself to it full time. Perhaps RIP a few LPs that aren't available anywhere. Could be a solution looking for a problem I don't have

Ringing different suppliers to pick up info, going back to what I did at work many times. Often gave me a different insight into what I was trying to achieve.
Question to three suppliers What equipment do you recommend to take analogue from record deck and tape decks to a digital only Pre Amp Would also like to record from both onto a hard drive.
1. Quite helpful. Favoured the Focusrite 18i20 over the Tascam D-3000, she could be right. Well informed lady who handles many questions on the Focusrite but none on the Tascam (!) When I said it would be great to try both out and return one she said "Yes, we do that a lot" !
2. Quite helpful again, said I could spend £40 or £1200 + but didn't know this market and told me to speak to my hifi dealer
3. Please send us a pic of the connections on the back of your TAD Pre Amp so we can advise, duly done.
Made me think Question I have is which input to use on the TAD. Choice of USB, XLR, Coax, Optical
The itch to play vinyl and tape decks on the system growing

The Focusrite unit is a recording interface for computers. The unit is highly unlikely to perform A2D duties without having a computer running the process. Very few such units do.

... So many quote both Analogue to Digital and Digital to Analogue in the same listing I saw that. I chose my examples quite carefully to avoid the dodgy-looking ones.

There were so many quoting both I wondered at one time if they might go both ways - so to speak
