Mogwai - Les Reverants (2013)Mogwai are a Scottish post rock band who have been active since 1995, they have produced several albums including Film and TV soundtracks . Les Revenants is the soundtrack to the French TV series of the same name , also shown on British TV as The Returned. Having bought their 2016 album Every Country's Sun I sampled a few others on Spotify and bought Les Revenants , at the time I had no idea it was a soundtrack , a beautiful melodic yet dark album it got under my skin . On learning it was a soundtrack I bought the TV box set which ignited my love of this album even more . The writing of the album began with the band only seeing some early scripts and further writing was done as the TV series progressed , remarkable how well the two fit together so well . I am sure many of you will have seen The Returned , an understated , credible series about an incredible theme . Spotify:Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Revenants_(album)

I've got a couple of Mogwai albums, but not this one, so I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Looking forward to giving this a listen as it’s not an album or band I’ve heard of before.

I've played it through twice. Very pleasant background music and would be excellent in the car. Atmospheric and more-ish without having any memorable tunes, quite a feat. It's been great for the office this morning. I think Les Merveilleux (4) is appropriate.

I am afraid this is not my sort of thing, Barry. I found it too slow and monotonous for my liking, so a 2/5 because it does have some good instrumentals.

a 3/5 that would have been a 7/10.
Oddly, I enjoyed the one vocal track more than the instrumental tracks, which is not to say I didn't enjoy the instrumentals, it's just that I thought that with the vocal track there was something to make one sit up and listen whereas the instrumentals all sounded like they had a piece missing, which, of course, they did - the images from the film. It wandered along nicely though, and it's just about strong enough to stand up as an album in its own right as well as being a soundtrack.

That's a very good point Paul , which makes me wonder what I would have thought of it if I'd known it was a soundtrack when I bought it. I have just looked at the album cover and there is no mention of "soundtrack" , on the inner sleeve it just says all tracks written for "Les Revenants" and doesn't even say what that is . Anybody watched the TV series ? It is very much like The OA in theme .

Oh no, thank you Barry, but I'm not looking to binge watch anything else at the moment. I'm sure it'll appear by the time I get round to it. If it's like The OA then I will definitely want to see it at some point.

If it's like The OA then I will definitely want to see it at some point. I'm quite a way into the Second series of The OA and it's changed big time , it's now nothing like Les Revenants , I'm sure Brit Marling has watched it though .

Prompting me to go looking for Mogwai bargains Government Commissions: BBC Sessions 1996-2003 CD (2005)
duly bought and played early today It's a keeper. Lovely surprise to hear the main man himself, John Peel introducing them
