Well the weather is great, people seem more relaxed and in London dare I say friendly So where are you guys off to for your down time this summer, any where nice or just having a quiet time back home? Backpacking in Burma, climbing Ayres rock, enjoying the superb food of Goa or just chilling out on Zante ?

Just returned from a weekend in Brussels via Eurostar. What a fab city!
Later in August we are off to Washington DC to drop off Ruth's son at his placement uni, George Washington. Then we will fly over to Houston to stay with my sister. I shall return with heat exhaustion!

Sitting in front of that great sounding system at every opportunity, wandering around the garden and fields with the dogs
easily pleased, and know what I like

This year, we were fully intending to go on a trip to the US - a revisit to some of the places we went about 15 years ago, Kings Canyon in California, Bryce and Zion Canyons and Grand Staircase Escalante in Utah...... .....but due to a set of uncontrollables, that'll have to be next year now - bugger! To make up for that utter and complete diappointment, we've had a few trips to slightly more local destinations - a week in Ireland, one in Halki, Greece and a few days in Krakov. Back to Greece again next month.

Got a few wee plans but we don't go abroad due to being poor/having the dog/not living like that. Going to take the canoe off to Pitlochry soon, off to Ardnamurchan to a log cabin we rent there(£40 a night, sleeps six and is ace),adventures with the grandchildren and having them overnight etc etc. We're not rich and never will be but we do have a high quality of life. It doesn't have to cost lots.

Sounds fantastic Chris - there are some superb places around Pitlochtry. Last time we stayed in a log cabin, it was June and it snowed -we were a looooooong way up in the hills!

Edinburgh Festival and Fringe for me. I have tickets for Stewart Lee, Jo Caulfield, Phil Jupitus, Simon Munnery, Barry Cryer, Alex Horne, Lucy Porter, Paul Merton, Simon Amstell, Henning Wehn, Jerry Sadowitz, Frank Skinner, Richard Herring, Phil Kay, David O'Doherty, Mark Watson and Jack Dee amongst others. Musically I will be hearing Jon Otway, Antonio Forcione, Camille O'Sullivan, Fascinating Aida, Kit & McConnel and Arthur Smith (singing Leonard Cohen) amongst others, rounded off by Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham in September. Should be a good year, decided to push the boat out as it could be my last Festival if there's a Yes vote in September.
