I really must stop " browsing" eBay. I've just bought a sub(woofer) for what I thought was too good a price to let pass. It's a Tannoy TS-10 and as that suggests it's got a 10" (250mm) driver. It's also got a 10-year history as the model was introduced in 2009 and it's a part of what was once known as Tannoy's "Studio" line of products. It was selling for between £240.00 and £350.00 on release. I paid a penny under £120.00. There were pictures of the actual item on eBay, which is always a "must" for me when buying at eBay. It's described as being in " Very Good Used condition throughout," and has some " Very Light Marks & Scratches," on its outer casing. Not bothered - it's going to be hidden anyway. It's got a pair of "line-level in" RCA sockets, and I've got a Pre-Out doing nothing on my Primare amp. I've also just ordered a 3m pair of EDGE phono cables, which both Jules and Jerry both seem to rate, to feed it. As you can see from this picture, the back panel has got more than enough knobs, holes, and switches to keep me entertained for a while. Mine is definitely the British 230v version, by the way, this is just the clearest image I could find and it happens to be an overseas model. The plan is to see if it'll fill out the bottom end that my ES11s don't seem too keen to provide. If it works, it works. If it doesn't then it will probably end up in my 5.1 system, replacing the 8" sub that currently resides there. Nothing else. I'm buying nothing else... except, perhaps, a pair of boxing gloves to wear whilst I'm browsing eBay in future.

Heh, heh. Finding a bargain like that is fun. Hope it integrates well with the ES11s.

My first set of speakers were from from Tannoys studio line - used them for a decade, so I guess I liked them. There actually was a sub that went with them, but I didn't pick it up - still occasionally look for it ebay, since I'd be intrigued to hear how those speakers sound when paired with their intended sub.

There were three subs in the range, the TS8, TS10, and the TS12. I believe they relaunched or updated the range at some stage as there are also "TS2" versions of all three.

This is the one: linkYour TS10 seems to have a bit more happening on the rear panel, otherwise I might have thought the Sub 10 was just a rebadged TS10.

Mine appears to be an "all things to all men" model, in that it's got that LFE Mode switch, which is specific to 5.1, or 7.1 systems, etc, which output a separate LFE track, and it's also got that LF Extension control which is bookended by MUSIC and THEATRE settings. I've downloaded a couple of manuals. I really must read them.

The EDGE leads have arrived from "That's Audio" and all I can do is look at how nicely made they are until my sub gets delivered on Monday - unless Eduardo finds another way to screw with the delivery of course. Thanks to jandl100 and julesd68 for recommending the leads.

Try them in your system now, Paul, replace your current interconnects - I think you might well want to keep them there and get another for the sub!

But you could try it as an experiment and then buy a 1/2m pair if you liked them!

Hehe, I've been browsing 20+HP small tractors and flail hedge cutters I'm resisting so far!

I've got to take the system down sometime, and do a major reorganisation. I'm just getting everything together so I can do it in one fell swoop. I've got a few bits and bobs to update, wall shelf to fit and move the deck downstairs, put some RDC cones in, change power leads, a new wooden "platform" underneath the whole lot to replace some marble, a new 5v psu for the Pi, and integrate the sub, of course. Blimey, when I list it all like that it sounds like hard work.

Parcelfarce is doing its level best to confuse, once again. According to their tracking page " Our driver will be with you between 10:00 and 11:00" (their emboldening) which he wasn't, but not to worry, alongside that message was " John will be with you between 11:00 and 12:00" which someone, possibly John, was. Neither of the two vans being driven by "our driver," and "John," shown on the handy map that Parcelfarce provide, has even approached at my address though, although "John" was getting closer before he vanished from the map completely. My parcel is still "out for delivery" and should be delivered between 10:00 and 11:00. That's the parcel I've just unpacked, that was delivered 20 minutes ago. "Our driver" hasn't moved in over two hours. Their tracking system seems to have crashed as I was writing this. The sub looks good though. Despite their honest description of it, you'd be hard pressed to find the "Very Light Marks & Scratches," described by the vendor. It could have easily passed as "New Other" rather than "Used" on eBay. I haven't plugged it in yet though. Fingers crossed.

Glad it arrived safely and you're pleased with it so far.
Yes, the descriptions some vendors provide can be very good. I am always reminded of an old episode of Only Fools and Horses where Del Boy buys a job lot of video recorders on the cheap that had 'fallen off the back of a lorry'. Unfortunately it turned out that the description was absolutely accurate and they had indeed fallen off the back of a lorry!

Unfortunately it turned out that the description was absolutely accurate and they had indeed fallen off the back of a lorry! I believe I remember that. I probably shouldn't say this, because I'll end up cursing myself, but in almost 700 transactions on eBay, over close on eight years, I've only ever had four, or five, go tits up. In many cases, I've been amazed at how good the condition of "used" items has turned out to be. I remember how surprised my wife was when I started buying second-hand guitars. You wouldn't have known that a lot of them weren't new. I know there are horror stories, and I've been guilty of posting about two or three of my disasters, but you never hear about the other, completely successful, transactions.
