Unbelievable. Such sadness.
All people have the right to be safe. All people have the right to their beliefs.
And if you don't agree with that, think your thoughts, keep them to yourself and just let others be.
This does not define Christchurch or its people, but sadly it is something our country will be remembered for.
New Zealand grew up in an instant yesterday.

Brett, rest assured: nothing that happened today defines Christchurch or its people except for the way they handled it afterwards.
You have my utmost sympathy for your fellow countrymen and women.

In no way does this tarnish New Zealanders, of all faiths.
Unfortunately it only takes one bastard terrorist, wherever they are.

Nothing to do with any sensible or civilised people.
This one got to me as I see NZ and the UK together.
Time for guns to be reduced massively everywhere around the world.

Not to be flippant, but it seems that the guy was an Aussie, anyway, not a Kiwi.

The main problem I see is that he was on no watch list for either country. Seems the amount of white supremacist chatter is rampant on the internet. No-one has the resources to follow it.
There is a small consolation that he worked alone. But still, sure to be many supporters.
Our Prime Minister is talking about tightening gun control in the country. A very good move.
Australia, New Zealand? We don't really like each other much. But it's kind of superficial really.

In old New Scientist mags 2013 into 2014 - I'm catching up - there are more than a few articles about how analysis is or shortly will be done to grab these people. is the tech there but not the willpower ? Must be AI that can do something White supremacists are just another tribal group. Unfortunately some are into killing rather than just mouthing off.
My brother went to Oz for a year but stayed, met and married a Kiwi ! Settled down in Sydney
Choice between Oz and NZ - has to be NZ for me.

My brother has been in Sydney for 25 years.
The thought of living there doesn't really appeal for me; too many Australians. I'm sure they feel the same way about us in New Zealand.

A really good start.
We have banned all semi-automatic weapons. It is now illegal to own them.

A woman with far bigger balls than Trump. Assume just about any sane NZ government would have done it anyway

More women in charge perhaps. Young and producing babies ! They don't seem to have the ego problems men have (in the main)

Our last two female PMs have been great for New Zealand. Both exceedingly smart.
I had a lot of time for Helen Clark...
