I use the app I downloaded from the Android play store.
No messing about with the app requiring a login etc. but that is due sometime.
When you play the prog you want (search facility was good), the ChromeCast icon pops up in the top right hand corner of the play screen on phone. After that it asks where I want to play, as I have one CC in the lounge and one in the music room.
CC then takes over.
Can still skip/pause/stop etc from the phone app.
I'm not sure how the app would integrate with a Firestick though.
Here's all the info on their site.
I searched it for "Firestick" but could not see a hit.
Looks like you'll need a £30 CC or get one 2nd hand. I have a CC first version and it's just fine. Got it for £10, over a year ago!
You could play it through your laptop hdmi but the quality will in my experience be lower than CC..
Plus it's so much easier just apping on your phone
