I am not sure why they are promoting MQA so heavily on it

Looks like a lot of renaming, but they do claim the clock and transformer improvements. The choice of chipset is interesting, haven't heard of it before. Not a fan of the looks.

"Rohm's flagship DAC chip BD34301EKV". That's a new one on me.

I know, if only Marshall could make a DAC chip for rock!

Oh yes, they could put that iconic logo on the chip and the DAC would play at 11!

For a DAC chip it's very small. However, if Luxman are using it then it has some pedigree already.

Wish l could get excited about it, a S/N of 134db... I can't imagine you hear the benefits. Isn't 24bit 120db anyway?

It looks to have an interesting price-point though, if it performs as well as it should do according to the promo.

You'll never know if it's any good unless you hear one. I guess ASR will review it glowingly. Without ever listening to it.

I think lack of volume is really poor for a new DAC these days.

Been using my EMM Labs DV2 with digital volume, direct to my Rowland 925 mono amps with great success!

I think lack of volume is really poor for a new DAC these days. But it's a £3,200.00 DAC, not a preamp, and surely one less thing in a DAC's signal path is a positive, not a negative, or am I just being old-fashioned? " No flashy displays, remote controls, or complex UIs," is how one reviewer put it. I know £3,200.00 is probably considered mid-priced these days, but if you're paying over three grand for a DAC, what are the odds you've already got a pre/power setup, or a high(ish)-end integrated?

True is that, but on the other hand you could say getting rid of a pre is one less thing in the system's signal path. Works very nicely chez moi.

There's nothing extra in the path of a DAC with digital volume control. It's just firmware and remote buttons.

There's nothing extra in the path of a DAC with digital volume control. It's just firmware and remote buttons. ...and magic, obviously, if it can raise and lower the volume without interacting with the signal path in any way. I was under the impression that a digital volume control worked by, for want of a better word, dividing the original signal, but obviously I'm no expert.
