Very nice idea. I had a fair bit of bamboo ply left over from benches in a workshop and used a bit on the rack in the UK (30 mm thick). Mainly for aesethics (as the turntable it supports sits on a Townshend Seismic Platform), but this stuff is very dense and seems acoustically pretty non-resonant. I have more and I'll have a play when I'm back in the UK to explore that a bit more. I like the bearing idea.
