Hélène Grimaud - Water (2018)
I first came across Hélène Grimaud when she did a live collaboration piece with Nitin Sawhney. I am a big fan of the Piano and anyone who can play as well as Hélène Grimaud fascinates me. This album is very recent and just lovely, I find myself playing it quite regularly whilst working as it has an ability to chill me out. Wiki:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hélène_GrimaudSpotify:

Thanks to Paul for an interesting choice! I will put my dislike of classical 'concept' albums aside for a moment as Ms Grimaud is an excellent pianist. My god how time flies - the last time I saw her in concert was eight years ago. She was playing the Emperor Concerto and at the time I enjoyed her performance much more than the music. I really must make an effort to listen to the Beethoven Concertos and see if my view of them has changed.

a very and interestingly varied programme with a high chill factor - pleasant but I can't really get very excited by it - tricky to score. 4/5 too much, 2/5 obviously too little, so ....

An enjoyable album. I didn't know the Silvestrov pieces, and I enjoyed them. Having said that if I'd been told that Einaudi was the composer of the second of them I'd have happily believed it. I'm a fan of Satie and I thought that his work here was recorded with a lot of reverb, which gave the impression (to me at least) of "soundtrack" music. That's not a complaint, by the way, just an observation. Actually, on reflection, there was quite a lot of reverb on most of the pieces on this album and it's not the first time I've made that remark about modern piano recordings if memory serves. The Debussy and the Chopin were nice (that word again) if a trifle unremarkable, and the Nitin Sawney was a pleasant way to finish off.
I concur with Jerry. I'd have scored it 7/10 but I can't, so it's 3/5

The recording venue is too swimmy for my liking, I want my piano recordings to be striking (pun intended).
Her Satie interpretations are not bad, a bit stylised and she pulls the timing, but it's hard to get past the warehouse sound.
Overall, not an album I shall return to. 2/5.
