The Croft Series 7 power amp I use is excellent but I am thinking of changing the valve to a NOS one. I cant really fault the supplied one but would hope to improve soundstage. Just wondered if there was any point with it being a power amp and if there were any that especially suits the Croft?

I changed my EL34s many years ago in my Croft Series 4 for some Groove Tubes and they definitely sounded tighter. It's worth a try with power amps as well as other kit. What valves does the 7 run?

It's an ECC83 - plenty of choices there. Fairly cheap to try a few different flavours unless you want to go crazy. I'd try a few cheapies to get a feel for the magnitude of gains to be had before you go mad! You never know you might find something you like.

It's the driver valve in the Croft 7 and can make quite a difference. Talk to Jimbo on AoS he has the same.

Yes something like that worth a try at the price.
I haven't used the ECC83 myself but super impressed by their very neutral 6SN7; they also do a good value GZ34.

Quick update: I bought a TAD ECC83 Cryo teated tube from Watford valves and have initially been disappoined with it. It sounds a bit clinical although the soundstage is very good. Then I had a look at the tube I took out-it was a Harma ECC83 Retro. I remember returning the amp to Glenn a while back who did some upgrading which must have included fitting this particular tube. I am going to keep the TAD tube in for a couple of weeks to see if it improves but the Harma has a sweeter top end and just sounds more musical so will probably go back in.
