The Radio Shack db meter I use is giving odd readings now, possibly to do with increased dynamic range.
Back a few weeks I had readings that were grouped. EG. 55db - 60db
Now on the same CDs I'm getting lower readings "LO" and higher peaks, say 65db.
Guess is this is due to the grounding box
To prove this we need a db meter measuring different systems with the readings logged
Anyone else found similar ?

To be honest, the response times of the Radio Shack meters is not really up to it. The bar meter is better than the digital readout, but even so.
I'm not sure that outright dynamics are what the grounding boxes are all about. It's more like sharply defining each instrument out of the mix, setting everything in a real acoustic, heightened focus. You can hear far deeper into the background.
None of those things are going to show up on an SPL meter.

Well, you have to measure what you can.
Not sure anyone has measured soundstage depth with a multimeter!

I am sure Paul Miller has Jerry Once watched him 'instruct' David price on how to perform a review with a multi meter on the speaker binding posts, a most illuminating experiance Mike What would be more accurate for measuring SPL would be a RTA (Real Time Analyzer).

I measure system improvements by the width of my smile.

My criteria are pretty similar!

Something is going on that I don't have an answer to. Never seen the db meter do this before
My measurement is the amount of time I stay stuck to this chair. Even more recently.
Be good to measure by numbers as well for the hard of understanding

So for Martin its extra teeth whiting and for Mike extra soothing pile cream, whats you criteria then gent's? Mine is how long I can stay awake after midnight when the music is on a roll, its just so difficult to leave the pleasure spot

I measure system improvements by the width of my smile. What, even when listening to the Blues?!

...it's the length of my tears when listening to Mahler.

I measure system improvements by the width of my smile. What, even when listening to the Blues?! Definitely. Any music played well will make me smile.
