For my friend Hazel The mechanics of music for a funeral
Knowing she liked King Crimson I thought about quiet tracks from Lizard and / or Islands
Now for the restrictions
Three tracks required, which seems to be standard for most secular funerals
Entrance music on loop, faded out once ready to begin the service. No timing restriction.
Reflection recommended to be no longer than 3 minutes, quiet, peaceful while photos are shown
Exit to be slightly upbeat, no longer than 6 minutes.
Surprise to me I'm told she found a love for Elvis Presley. The noisy stuff, but being recommended for the reflection track Can't see I can fit that in
I mentioned Lady of the dancing water but they don't seem to have that even though they say they have Lizard
Your very best thoughts please gentlemen

I would say entrance can be sad, exit should be thoughtful, not sure about the middle piece. I mirror others when I request no men in frocks anywhere near my funeral. Absolutely no mention of sky gods. Something like this for me: 1. A movement from Durufle's Requiem 2. Angel by Sarah McLachlan 3. Fotheringay by Fairport Convention My choices could change by tomorrow. Perhaps I should give it a dry run?

Further to my previous post, I've definitely decided that an unattended cremation is the way I (almost literally) want to go. Whatever money I have left, I'd rather let my kids have it than, as I said previously, pay somebody I've never met to tell lies about what a nice bloke I was. Nobody likes funerals, and not having to go to one is the final gift I can give to my friends and family. If they intend having a party I may leave instructions that they play the three pieces of music I chose, unless they want me to haunt their arses. The Mahler will probably piss my son off - he never could get the hang of classical music - but that's just another little bonus I won't be around to see ...or will I???

Fire risk! I know what you mean, though. There is something to be said about a ceremony to see someone off but I'd rather it be a celebration of their life than a lot of sniffy sadness.

This one:
Also doubles as the track I'd want in my headphones in the event I'm on a crashing airliner

One down two to go I have had an executive decision from the lady organising the whole thing
Kenny G Songbird Not sure if Hazel ever heard it but there you go. Heard worse
Also being chased for the songs by Thursday. Initial guess was in 2-3 months which sounded a long time

Should only ever be Christine McVie or Eva Cassidy.

Let's try Asia - Heat Of The Moment so people can laugh and say wow this piece of work is still making excuses for all of the dumb things he did because it wasn't his fault in a way if you think about it.
It would be funny though to pick a track that has people laughing like "this cheeky bastard is still giggling in the grave? Get a life bro".
If anybody wants to sneak in King Diamond's 'Sleepless Nights' and Def Leppard's 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' I won't stop them.
Would nice to have people walking out feeling good.

"Metal Machine Music" by Lou Reed will do nicely I reckon! Might lure them into a false sense of security with "Perfect Day" at 'half-time'.
