I'm Steve and new to this site. I'm also on a few of the other well known hifi sites but was unaware of this one until very recently.
I'm looking forward to reading and sharing opinions, banter etc. First thread later today...
Cheers,
Steve.

Many thanks for the warm welcome(s)! I'm humbled.
I'm down on the south coast in Hove (nr Brighton). I've been into hifi since my teens when an uncle introduced me to it and helped me choose a 'music centre' as I could not stretch to separates back then.
I've bought, sold and swapped countless items over the years, sometimes trading up and sometimes down. At present I use a dCS classic stack front end (but shortly to be replaced with an Ayre C-5xemp, if I like it), an Ayre K-1xe preamp and Adams Tensor Gamma active speakers. I have a dab tuner for a bit of radio now and again.
I'm a keen golfer but a bit fair weather these days and, of course, I support the mighty Brighton and Hove Albion!
Looking forward to some enjoyable reading and exchanging of information and views.
Cheers to you all,
Steve.

Good to have you here, Steve, and we'll follow your upgrade story with interest.
Active speakers are quite rare at this level. How do you find running long interconnects to them, any interference or pickup?

Hi Martin. I've used quality, shielded microphone cable by Belden or Van Damme with Neutric XLR connections and haven't noted any interference at all. The system is fully balanced which perhaps helps. Compared to up market speaker cable it's very reasonably priced. I wonder whether the 'quality' of the cable is more important with higher current as in conventionally driven speakers as opposed to the active variety?

Balanced certainly helps. Even so, I have found differences in SQ between different balanced cables. It's worth experimenting.

Ditto Proved on Rega Isis to Pass and recently TAD - TAD
Balanced where possible

I wonder whether the 'quality' of the cable is more important with higher current as in conventionally driven speakers as opposed to the active variety? I'm wondering if the cable construction could give a clue. A good mic cable is designed to be very well protected in a physical sense, to compensate for 18 stone roadies trundling dirty great 60Kg+ 8x10 cabs on dollies over them once they've been gaffa-taped to within an inch of their lives. End of gig - rip 'em up and roll 'em up as fast as possible. Rinse and repeat nightly. They need to be very hard-wearing.

I wonder whether the 'quality' of the cable is more important with higher current as in conventionally driven speakers as opposed to the active variety? Nice to see you here.. There could well be something in this. I have 5 active stereo pairs, each one getting a limited frequency range.. Not trying to feed 20-20,000+ Hz down one cable. Never felt the need for anything other than quality OFC. I've tried 99.99% pure silver as one set and didn't like it, no matter which driver pair I tried..
