A good speaker to start with !
Much maligned by too many.
I upgraded my system from the front end onwards, with a few deviations. The Isos are the only remaining piece of kit (Mana supports aside) that are left.
Them good ole Isobariks allowed all of the changes through and I would argue, perhaps submit that these Isos, with the front end they have are the best sounding in the world. Yea better than active.
They do image, if you treat them right They are accurate and produce an excellent sound
I think they have been let down by the systems in front of them before. I've certainly heard these sound poor - before I saw the light and upgraded.
Wonder how many superb speakers there are ruined by what comes in front ..... ?

If you think of the Isobarik's constituent drivers: KEF B139 bass x 2, B110 mid and T27 tweeters x 2, they were used in a multitude of speakers in their time, some of which sounded very good indeed. Certainly my Cambridge R40s were excellent. You did them the power of good by getting rid of the NAP500 and we heard the results, didn't we?

I had a pair of Isobariks with Naim external active filter and driven by maim-amps...I never got them to excel, but I heard the potential of them..Another pair with Linn-amps, but not so good..

As we have been discovering, Lasse, Naim amps are not the most revealing and in fact Mike's Chord really did show his old NAP500 up. We were quite startled when we did the swap. I agree that the Linn amps were not wonderful, I tried a Klimax once against my Chord and it wasn't very dynamic or detailed.

I never heard a system with Isobariks that I felt I'd be able to live with but I can see what it is about them that some folks like. It would be interesting to hear a pair in a system I know well.

A close friend has Isobariks which he initially used passively with a Kairn and LK100's, subsequently he moved active and bought up a set of rather poor condition Meridian power amps which he rebuilt with good quality components, at the end of the project they sounded sublime and despite changing other components in his system the Isobariks have remained.

I started my big upgrade at the front, deck, CDP and worked towards the back, speakers. Everything else has gone, excluding the wonderful Exposure speaker cables.
The Isos have stepped up each upgrade and maze me with what they do considering their age. One day I might consider other speakers, but they may not make the grade against the Isos
