Why aren't there more live recordings of classical concerts?
I was wondering this when listening to this Shostakovich live recording a while back which Martin introduced me to ...
Superlative sound quality and that extra 'frisson' that live spontaneous performances bring, I find it rather irresistible and certainly want to search out more to enjoy.

I know there are a few decent Mahler live recordings out there, Tennstedt's 2nd and 8th come to mind, both of which were recorded by the Beeb at the Royal Festival Hall. I believe the 5th, 6th, and 7th were also released.
Also, wasn't there a whole "LSO Live" series?

Thanks for that Paul, there certainly is an LSO Live series - lsolive.lso.co.uk/A quick look on spoti has some of these showing so I will be investigating - in preference to the Mahler ... I'll then try to see if any other orchestras are doing likewise ...

LSO Live is a label. They've made some terrific live recordings, the Firebird for instance.

I found 9 albums that I liked the look of on LSO live so have added them to spotify!
There's a whole Sibelius cycle with Sir Colin Davis including the fab Kullervo Symphony.
