Inspired by some talk of the Cowboy Junkies cover of this song, which in your opinion is the best version? And why?

I like the Cowboy Junkies version due to the NBK dialogue at the start. Prefer the more mellow vibe to Lou Reeds live version.

I love the version on 'Rock n Roll Animal', mainly because of the guitar interplay at the beginning between Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter, two wholly under-rated players, who later turned up in the Alice Cooper band ('Welcome to my Nightmare' and on).

It's the one off this album I've heard. Not sure where it's live from but still prefer the CJs version. NBKs a great movie.

I can think of loads more cover versions of 'Sweet Jane' - Mott the Hoople, U2, Sugarcubes, REM, Phish, The Blue Aeroplanes (who remembers them?!), Brownsville Station, Wreckless Eric, Lone Justice.....there are more, I know there are!
Here's Eric. Probably no-one's favourite though!

The Blue Aeroplanes are still going Saw them in Glasgow in December, was a damn good night. Sweet Jane is such a good song. I like some versions better than others but have yet to hear a real duffer.

Ah, Lone Justice and Maria McKee. How I loved them. It's not on their studio albums, but here it is:
