Ah, I remember those from back in the day, from magazine advertising. A very interesting design. I don't recall ever knowing they had a rear passive bass radiator! I never heard them, though.
Good luck with the refurb, an excellent project!

Gosh, that's a great find. Are the driver surrounds intact?

Thanks Jandl100 this will be a great project! Currently stripping it all down to have the cabinets repainted to mint condition.
Hi Martin, luckily all the drivers work and are intact, perhaps two of the four mids needs part of the surround glued but nothing really major! I will be testing and going through all the drivers to make sure they are working as they should.
Goodmans did not mess about, the drivers are solid and clearly they put a great deal of thought into this design (as wild and weird as it looks!).
I have ordered replacement ALCAP 2% tolerance caps, thought no point going exotic caps, these should suffice and get it singing again.
Thinking of using different wadding, originally it just two-three blocks of yellow sponge, also the casing which surrounds the mids and tweeters is quite a thin plastic material. My thoughts were to stiffen it up by using something like dynamat (soundproofing deadening material).

For small repairs to the cones (like fine cracks) you can use watered-down glue and paint it with several coats. Wilmslow and Falcon are great for speaker components. I used Mills resistors and Supersound caps when refurbishing my Gales.

Martin that is a wonderful thread! Those Gales look loveeeelllyyyy. Very inspiring, yes i ordered from Falcon acoustics. I was thinking about making the crossover again, but thought maybe i dont need to go that far. I am hoping just replacing the capacitors is all it needs. Im also surprised that the crossover contains no resistors (even though the board has placement for a resistor and extra capacitor). Perhaps a universal board they used across some of there ranges of speakers.
Wasn't sure about replacing all the speaker cables, they seem fine, maybe i should go all out and just do it all?

I presume the clock is an optional extra ?!

Nice touch on using new Allen Socket cap type screws! I literally just ordered a whole set for my build.

I used socket caps as there is no danger of slipping, as well as looking good.
I had no choice with the crossovers, mine were completely blown. Yours look good and may only need replacement caps. The cables look fine too, may not need replacing?

Hi and welcome to the forum! That's a nice find. I think you'll find that you will get a massive soundstage from the 8's, something which I hold as important in a speaker. Don't expect the sort of pinpoint imaging that you can get from a speaker of more conventional design though - some people find this sort of presentation odd at first but once you become accustomed to it, you realise that it is very natural. I've never owned Dimension 8s but have always been interested in them. Instead, I have two pairs of Acoustic Research LST taking up a lot of space in a spare room that I really must get around to dealing with! There was a little discussion of the Goodmans in a thread early in TAS' life. You may find some tips in here.

I still eagerly await the results of getting your LSTs up and running!
