Primus - Green Naugahyde (2011)
I've chosen this album from a group I've liked since my teenage years, Primus. It's definitely not for everyone. The bands albums have a humorous air to them, mixed with virtuoso bass playing by bandleader, Les Claypool. I've been listening to Green Naugahyde for about a year now. For me the album really digs in at track 3 and 4, Last Salmon Man and Eternal Consumption Engine, and never let's go after that. Tracks 6 and 7, Eyes of Squirrel are Watching and, Jilly's on Smack are my favorites. Is anyone here familiar with this group? Wiki:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_NaugahydeSpotify:

PCan’t make my mind whether I like or dislike this album. There is something catchy about it which keeps making me go back to it... will try a few more times.

Not for me, I'm afraid. It's a bit too 'quirky' for my tastes. 5/10

Thanks guys, to be fair, I have a life time of conditioning to slowly have gotten used to this group. In fact, this album I only got into after hearing track Hennepin Crawler about 20 times before becoming curious about the other tracks.
I think it could be hard for someone to get into, but I can't be sure.
Quirky it definitely is. This bands other album titles include Sailing The Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda, Primus & Chocolate Factory, The Brown Album, Of Whales and Woe, etc..
Album concepts, titles, track names and even the delivery of the vocals are all very playful and silly at times, which can be off-putting for people, but I do believe the music is a bit rewarding for anyone who is still on-board once all the quirks have been recognized.
Utterly staggering bass play and bass tones used and just overall implementation and unique uses of the instrument by Les Claypool all across the entire catalogue of Primus albums.
Here's a couple of favorites from other Primus albums.
I believe he uses a violin on a bass to get that sound.
kick ass!!
My favorite album especially tracks: Here come the Bastards, Those Damned Blue-collar Tweakers and Fish On.

I want to like this because it is quite catchy in places but overall, not my thing I’m afraid. 4/10.

There is something about it, listening right now to Hennepin Crawler which is pretty catchy. Overall, it isn't for me but I can't write it off completely. 5/10

I played this yesterday and, though I persevered with it, I just couldn't connect. I felt it had more than a hint of the Chili Peppers about it, but I think I can safely say that I won't be playing it again. Thanks for bringing the band to my attention though, I'd never heard anything by them until yesterday and sampling any new music has to be a good thing.
I give it a 2.
