It might have had an influence on those in the audio trade who are already or are thinking of joining up. I would suggest that in the list of things members should take note of when joining is that traders are not welcome, or should not sell, mention, or recommend any of their own products. Maybe they should not even enter in discussions where products similar to the ones they sell are being discussed. So say for example in the thread about file based audio or streaming products, the likes of me cannot take part. That would avoid any conflict of interest.

The no trade membership rule is in the forum rules, Stan, our fundamental constitution. That is not at all saying the same thing as "traders are not welcome".
Selling or recommending your own products is out, but there are plenty of other forums offering that. As 'stanleyb', you are very welcome and most likely will be asked direct questions about Beresford products at times. You are then free to respond. Indeed there is a Caiman Mk. II thread running already. I also disagree with "in the thread about file based audio or streaming products, the likes of me cannot take part" since there are many ways in which you can contribute from your experience without appearing to sell your own product.
Ultimately, we're trying something new here so we'll find our balance and no-one is going to penalise simple errors.

It does mean that it would be difficult, although admittedly not impossible (taking Stan as an example here), for a thread about Beresford products to survive without challenge with Stan's input. It is a very fine line to tread and one which concerned members in the trade may find is far too easy to inadvertently stray from.

Stan as Martin has said traders are welcomed as individuals and can answer questions. Their is plenty around of knowledge and experience you can share here. Its a different way of doing things but so far we gotten a very positive response from our stance

Sorry if I am covering so many bases at the same time, but it is important for traders like me to know from the beginning where we stand. I am particularly interested in the intent and purpose of any forum that I Join these days. One reason for that is that I have frequently asked customers to join forum X or Y, because of my presence and that of other customers on that forum with the same product to discuss problems and get advise. I am sure that many members on this forum can back me up on that. Anyhow, I don't want to lumber any forum with customers of a product of mine looking to chat about yet another item someone bought from me. So I thank the admin for the unambiguous clarification with respect to people in the audio manufacturing and retail industry.

I agree. The only sure fire way to avoid any crossing of that line would be to stay clear of placing an answer in the thread. emailing or phoning the trader would be a better idea. Using the PM facility is not a favourite of mine. I might read a thread or visit a forum for days, but not log in during that time. So PMs would go unanswered for far too long. No doubt other traders have that same problem across many forums.

You can set an e-mail reminder for PMs, Stan.
