Just seeking clarification here; is this ('Vendor Sites') a place for traders to offer stuff for sale, or for people to point out bargains they've spotted on trade sites, or a bit of both?

Yes, sorry everyone. Our intention for this Board was not fully developed. It is intended for us to highlight vendor sites of interest to members. It is not intended for direct vendor advertising since we don't have trade membership here, only individuals (some of whom have a declared interest).
We'll get to sorting it out a little later.

My apologies for any misunderstanding and any distress caused to anyone who saw my now deleted post. I too understood that the board is in development and no fixed position for members who also sell audio products was yet decided upon.
Just to clarify on behalf of other members in the trade: is the board just for non-traders?

What about trade who have pre-used bargains to move on ?
Could there be a "TRADE" section for used gear ?

Does that answer cover both Stan's and Philip's question Chris?

The forum is for everyone to join as individual members. We only ask traders to declare their trade interest, as you should do in your signature please, Stan. You are welcome to put your website URL there, too.
Traders are welcome to contribute in every normal way, but may only discuss their products in response to a posted question. There is no trade sales section.

OK.
If I asked for a particular product (as in a wanted ad) would a trade member be allowed to respond openly, or only by private message ?

I think in that case a PM would be appropriate.

Does that answer cover both Stan's and Philip's question Chris? Sort of! Stan's question: Is the board just for non-traders?The answer is no, but perhaps not in the way Stan means. People are here as private individuals. If they happen to be a trader as well, then we won't stop them posting on the board, but we don't want them to use it to advertise their own wares. To Mr Pre65's question: Could there be a "TRADE" section for used gear ?
No, there could not, sorry.

It's a potential minefield, isn't it? Well, it will give TAS a very different flavour to most other hifi forums, which is no bad thing when you want to stand out from the crowd...

Thanks for the clarification. It's best at this stage that traders are aware that they cannot offer anything for sale on the board. But how would that square up with say a car salesman that wants to sell his old speakers? I assume that the majority of us on the board have a trade of some sort.

No, there could not, sorry. Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't being picky just thought it worth clarifying seeing as this thread is a wee bit pacey just now

As I read things Stan, If you had (for example) a Pioneer CD player in your personal home system you could advertise that to the members, but NOT a product that you make as your trade.

No, there could not, sorry. I am glad I placed a notice for a product of mine and somehow got the status of traders better explained. It was this misunderstanding that caused me to get banned by wigwam, and for Marco and Eddy Spaghetti to get banned with me and eventually start up an alternative forum format. It's best that we know at this early stage if the board is broadly following the old wigwam or the AoS format. Traders like me have to watch everything we type just in case someone thinks we are trying to sell something with even the most innocent of contribution to a thread. Hopefully the down time at the other place will soon be sorted and life can return to normality very soon.

I must have misunderstood the original invitation email sent to me to join the board. Since I only made two posts up to today since the board started up, I can't be accused of being a regular contributor. I have tripled my number of posts in just one day. That calls for a period of fasting.
