The new Project kit looks good and is gaining very positive reviews, I'm keen to try the S2 ultra AND the new PreBox S2 Digital which in one review was almost as good as the Mytek Brooklyn DAC but £1400 less 😮
Ok far fewer features but if you don't need them 😉

No support for spotify connect yet according to that review but the distributor says otherwise. It runs Volumio, so there is support for Spotify Connect.

Lost my patience with my PC last night and pulled the trigger on one of these - should hopefully be with me Tuesday. Already pulled the PC out the system and tiding myself over with a Pi with Digi+.

Nice move, Tom. What DAC will you be using?

An Audiolab Mdac - another Westlake design, so seems appropriate. But I'll be connecting it via a separate USB interface ( this one), which is a little nicer than the one onboard the Mdac. The Streambox should integrate into things here pretty seamlessly, effectively replicating the role that I had the PC playing til yesterday. I might fiddle with it a little though, just to see if I can swap Volumio for Moode.

That's great. Do give us a blow-by-blow description of your findings when you get it. I think the Streambox could be recommended to many members looking for a simple but good quality streaming solution.

Well it arrived later than expected - just set it up, and holy carp! Feeling very good now about losing the PC. But no real time to get very well acquainted since I'm super busy now and over the next few days (kid's birthday celebrations) but I'll give some more impressions once it's had some time to bed in.

On recommendation, I bought the Stream Box S2 Ultra.
Have briefly used it into a SEG Dac with Spotify, Bluetooth and a thumb drive. The Project interface was not great for finding music.
I have a modded Cisco 2960 network switch (from Audiophool in The Netherlands) that will feed the S2 Ultra via ethernet.
My 2011 Macbook Pro has all my music on it, and an ethernet port. Would I be able to connect this to the network switch, thereby accessing my music via the S2 Ultra?

I heard the stream box a few years ago at Martin's and it was good. It also would give you option of something like the Gustard U18 later. I ;et others answer your question as a while since I used Volumio and never tried to access music like this.

Yes - just create a share at the top level music folder in the Mac and then connect to the share in the OEM version of Volumio on the S2. It will also be worth bringing its Volumio up to date, it may have fallen behind by now.
