Here's something a bit different and wonderful.
An album of double bass delights by South Korean virtuoso Mikyung Sung. It has certainly opened my eyes - absolutely breathtaking musicality, I'd buy tickets to see her perform in a heartbeat.

That Massenet piece is one of my favourites. I've heard it played on violin, cello, guitar, and now double bass. It's a lovely treatment, and her tone is excellent.

Yes her tone is just fabulous!
"Meditation" has a place in my heart as my son used to play it on violin.
I'm particularly enjoying the Hindemith Sonata which is an interesting segue ...

Yes, the Massenet is beautiful, especially for me on the violin.

Hello everyone.
Let me clarify straight away when my message is translated by Deepl, thank you for being indulgent with a wording that could be very approximate at times.
At the moment, you'll have to wait a few months before you can listen to my audiophile system because I've just sold my DAC and the next one could only be obtained after some savings in a few months' time.
That's why the extract I'm sharing with you today is a YouTube musical passage. But it can be found on Qobuz and probably on other music platforms too.
I should also point out that although I've always loved classical music in the broadest sense, I don't actually know much about it - I'm just someone whose music, at times, allows an angel's feather to graze our heart and ignite something inexplicable but profound within us.
This is the case here with a work I was not familiar with. I was stunned by the depth and beauty of this music, as well as by the interpretation of this pianist of Ukrainian origin (thoughts for this courageous people and for this country, so tragically stricken).
Here's what it says about this remarkable performer:
Natacha Kudritskaya, a Ukrainian pianist, became interested in French music at the Kiev Conservatoire and gradually developed a passion for Rameau, whose 250th anniversary of death will be celebrated in 2014. In 2011, the Abbaye de Royaumont, which has just acquired the largest collection of documentation on Rameau, welcomed Natacha in residence. She is carrying out in-depth research on Rameau and discovering new works and ways of interpreting his music. She paid particular attention to the incredible modernity of his writing. The recording of the CD was confirmed and Natacha decided that she would play on a modern Yamaha piano.
She explains her choice : "Rameau's works for harpsichord constitute a fundamental treasure trove in the evolution of the instrument and in performance techniques, and this richness becomes obvious when the works are played on a modern piano, yet very few of his works were recorded on modern pianos in the 20th century".
Enjoy your listening and a very pleasant weekend to you all.
Jean-Louis.

Thank you for sharing this Jean-Louis, I haven't had any time for music yet this weekend with collecting my son from University.
I will try to be entirely open minded about the prospect of Rameau played on a Yamaha. I can understand the motivation in terms of trying to find a fresh perspective on the music that "another" harpsichord recording probably won't offer. I will report back.

What an exceptional performance!
She seems to have a perfect appreciation of how this music should be played on a modern piano.

Good evening to you all.
Sibelius is a musician I know very little about. Thank you for sharing this version, which I'll discover when my audiophile system is up and running, hopefully in March.
But as the festive season approaches, let's treat ourselves to this musical delight from two artists, Sabine Devieilhe and Marianne Crebassa, who, on this video during a rehearsal, achieve an almost perfect symbiosis of their singing and enchant us :
I wish you and your family a very happy new year.
Jean-Louis.

I hope she enjoyed playing there as she will never appear there again.
A quick look at her bookings sees her playing for the most part just in Russia and Italy this year ...
