...Perhaps I just need a remote connection to Paul's system so I can hear whatever he plays! I think some of my Symphonic Metal and Space Rock might change your mind. You should have a read about Gesualdo he seems to have led an "interesting" life I absolutely love Gesualdo, and yes he was a bit of a 'character' ... Hearing his work sung live is absolutely magical!

Probably my most enjoyable Pleyel find so far ... Although this was good, too ... After an enjoyable listen to Abbado a few weeks ago, I fancied another listen to Beethoven's 9th. Had a brief go with Menuhin, then Jochum ... didn't fit the bill. Then tried this .... Yes! The 1st mvt is hewn from granite - magnificent. The adagio seems like a transcription from a slow mvt of a late string quartet. Awesome. I have to confess I didn't bother with the finale - that just seems trite to me these days.

And an astonishing performance of Rachmaninov 3rd piano concerto on YouTube Wow! That is considerably wonderful. I didn't think anyone could come close to Argerich.

Yes, it is good. Mighty fine sq, too. ____ Coo, this is lovely. Perhaps the best transcription of the Goldbergs I have heard.

Tchaikovsky - Symphony No: 1 [Winter Dreams]
Has to be one of his most tuneful and certainly his most Russian.

Tchaikovsky - Symphony No: 1 [Winter Dreams]Has to be one of his most tuneful and certainly his most Russian. Yep, I agree with that. Heart meltingly beautiful slow movement, the plangent woodwind melodies are soooo Russian. Tremendously exciting at times, too. A great Russian symphony.
___
Yester-eve, 2 masterful British symphonies ...
Arnell's more approachable; Bate's somewhat harder work, but worth it.

Gradually getting into these symphonies. It's taking a while mind ... i.e. decades, off and on. Mainly off. But a good generic-orchestral listen. Ahhh, perfect music. Like Haydn, but a bit different.

It had "Cello" in the title, so I bought it. On another tack completely, I've totally fallen in love with this lot recently, Anonymous 4.

It had "Cello" in the title, so I bought it. :D Brilliant! I once had about thirty seconds in which to dive into a shop and buy a record before a bus arrived. I ran in, not knowing what to get and went to the 'K' section because I didn't have anything in that part of my alphabetically filed record collection. I grabbed the first thing that I could in the bin. Can't say what it was though, because this is the classical section!

I just love the sound of the Cello. Very rarely have I met a Cello Concerto that I disliked...Elliot Carter's excepted.
