- excellent violin concerto by Dvarionas. Good set of solo piano pieces and even the song cycle didn't have me reaching for the stop icon.

.... that was very MartinT-ish. We overlap somewhat in our musical tastes, but not very much! I sampled some albums by that Christina Pluhar lass you like, Martin. Yuk, I couldn't abide it! Made me squirm. Hah, hah, Jerry! It's funny how our listening preferences differ even within the genre of 'classical' (which is a poor name for a genre and period within the genre). I wonder what you would have made of last night's Prom (see my separate review)?

Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring
In view of the concert last Thursday, a quick appraisal of my recordings:
Rozhdestvensky, LSO, Nimbus Good overall recording, taken a little too slowly which loses some impact, slightly lost in the venue.
Bernstein, Israel PO, DG The Israel SO venue always sounds dry, allows everything to be starkly vivid, great for analysis if not a very believable soundstage.
Mackerras, LPO, EMI Brilliant overall performance with pace and impact.
Karajan, BPO, DG Equally brilliant performance but slightly held back in impact due to the brass section missing in action, interpretation second to none, oh hang on here comes the brass!

RoS -- I like Stokowski's downsized interpretation in the original Fantasia movie. Here is a short excerpt ...
I have Dorati on LP - classic Decca sq - excellent!

Some of yesterday's musical fare ... Glorious music, one of my favourite composers. And again - yummy!

{can't get the image to work for some reason, but Bach keyboard partitas played by Erik Feller on the organ} -- some of my favourite music, usually heard on solo piano or harpsichord, but here (uniquely?) played on the organ, but it works well.
-- some quiet music by Kamran Ince! Lovely.
And an astonishing performance of Rachmaninov 3rd piano concerto on YouTube -- --

Inspired by some recent choices by Paul / slinger .... -- gosh, why isn't the concerto much better known? It's a humdinger. The other pieces are good, too. and -- lovely! Perhaps I just need a remote connection to Paul's system so I can hear whatever he plays!

...Perhaps I just need a remote connection to Paul's system so I can hear whatever he plays! I think some of my Symphonic Metal and Space Rock might change your mind. You should have a read about Gesualdo he seems to have led an "interesting" life

More Gesualdo. this is the first madrigal from Il quarto libro di Madrigali (1596). The difference is I started to wonder what the madrigals would sound like arranged for strings, so I made this, and now I know. Sorry for posting my own stuff. Hah, not really. MP3 quality only, and it's a very quick mix. Excuses over, on with the motley, and please be kind. https%3A//soundcloud.com/uk_muso/luci-serena-e-chiare

I will have a listen to the Gesualdo-slinger re-mix later.
_____
Last night was (largely) Khachaturian night. His ballet music is justly famed, but his symphonies and concertos are great, too ...
His 3rd symphony on this release was surprisingly (to me) good, with an impressive part for organ
then ...
and ...
This was the 1st time I'd heard the cello concerto, wonderful piece.
