“Enjoy Lang Lang’s performance of Feed The Birds from Mary Poppins filmed in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland Park in California”
Er, no thanks, I really didn’t. This arrangement is just goddawful slush - who on earth is going to find this appealing? It reminds me of the worst 'light entertainment' excesses of the 70's - perhaps Richard Clayderman fans might enjoy? Certainly not children …

32 seconds. I lasted 32 seconds of Lang Lang feeding the bloody birds, and that was only because I slapped the mouse and missed the button the first time I tried to stop it. The guy has recorded with Mike Oldfield and Herbie Hancock, and THAT'S the best he could come up with.
I dipped back in at around 02:15, just to double-check I wasn't doing it some sort of injustice. It sounded like someone attempting a Rachmaninov piano concerto while wearing boxing gloves and suffering from a concussion. As for the "dramatic" arm movements..?
What a piece of absolute dreck.
Even this is preferable.
And this is pure class.

I doubt it. Probably driven by his management - his share of the classical market can't really get bigger so this is an attempt to go further mainstream. If it does well other lucrative opportunities & endorsements will surely follow. Sadly there is more to come - the cover says it all!

Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra, Nelsons, CBSO The orchestra strings and organ create an outstanding opening to this piece and the follow up strings are sweet where they need to be. Until my favourite Ormandy/EMI (ever) comes to streaming, this has gone to my top spot for Zarathustras. open.qobuz.com/track/31861690

Grieg - Piano Concerto, Lupu Still a magnificent performance of the Grieg, my favourite of all time. Sounding spectacular on Qobuz with great hall ambience and typical Decca attention to quality for the piano. Lupu dances over the keys in a manner that only Argerich can do. Ignore the Underground trains in the 2nd movement. open.qobuz.com/track/567446

Stravinsky - Rite of Spring Jarvi and the NHK play this quite differently, but it's very enjoyable. It doesn't live up to the Gergiev, though. open.qobuz.com/track/129151952

This is one of my favourite classical pieces, I rather like this version and I also have the 1971 recording by Boston Symphony Orchestra • William Steinberg. I would love to know what you consider the best recording/version of this piece so I could have a listen. Thanks Richard Strauss, Michel Schwalbé, Berliner Philharmoniker · Herbert von Karajan – Also Sprach Zarathustra Label: Deutsche Grammophon – 2530 402 Format: Vinyl, LP, Stereo Country: Germany Released: 1974 Genre: Classical Style: Modern

My very favourite is only available as an LP. It's the Eugene Ormandy recording with the Philadelphia Orchestra on EMI. Outstanding performance and an opening organ to die for. If you ever find one, buy it!
