I am having a good listen to my microRendu today as the linear PSU has turned up, so I decided to stream some familiar classical, and came across this version of Beethoven’s 5th, it is a rather stunning rendition IMHO, full of atmosphere and attack in Allegro con brio, and some lovely felling in the Andante.

Ozawa is great.
Another epic 5th is the Carlos Kleiber on DG.

Yesterday before going the Opticians in Honiton I popped into the Hospicecare Charity Warehouse on the off chance they were doing vinyls again. My luck was in and they had a load, mostly classical, quite a few look as if they came from a collection of predominantly early classical, so I selected 2 classical and a couple of others for a £1 each. Played yesterday after cleaning, musically I think it is very good, I am not usually into choral music but this is a rather lovely recording and nice pieces. the previous owner had noted on the inner sleeve as Very Good recording. Dieterich Buxtehude, Agostino Steffani, Greifswald Cathedral Choir*, Berlin Bach Orchestra*, Hans Pflugbeil, Vienna Boys' Choir*, Chorus Viennensis, Hans Gillesberger, Concentus Musicus Vienna*, Nikolaus Harnoncourt – Cantatas · Stabat Mater Label: Three Centuries Of Musick – 3C 303 Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Stereo Country: UK

I've got a few LP's on Turnabout and was surprised how good they sounded.
The other one is certainly one of the more obscure classical labels but anything made by Harnoncourt is always worth listening to.

I've saved that for later.

I have about 5 or 6 Turnabouts and they are all pretty good, they seem to focus on earlier music predominantly but maybe I haven’t come across any yet.

Emma Kirkby in very fine voice on this impressive recording. I was also taken by the rich tones of baritone, Peter Harvey.
Perfect late night listening.

Picked up up this Decca recording about a week ago for £3 in the Hospice Care warehouse, it was rather dirty and needed a clean which I have just got round to, turns out it looks minty, occasional crackle so I think another scrub in the ultrasonic bath should should do it. I already have 2 other recordings of Mahler's Symphony No 5, one by Rafael Kubelik & the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the other Claudio Abbado & Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I think I prefer this recording/rendition, it seems to have more depth and emotion to how it is presented, but maybe I am talking rubbish. Mahler* – Chicago Symphony Orchestra* • Georg Solti • Yvonne Minton – Symphony No. 5 In C Minor / Songs From "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" Label: Decca – SET 471-2 Format: 2 x Vinyl, LP, Stereo Box Set Country:UK Released: 1970
