Well I think you're a right bunch of wimps, Das Rheingold completed and Die Walküre will be tomorrow. Maybe I'm warped or whatever, but I'm enjoying it I do enjoy Opera though, is that something you guys don't enjoy, which actually wouldn't surprise me?

I can enjoy La Boheme, Traviata etc. Carmen I absolutely love.
If I'm in the mood I can also manage some Baroque opera.
It's never going to be a great passion of mine though.

I can't stand most opera (Carmen excepted), for the same reason that I can't stand musicals or shows.

Ah, it's starting to make sense now, I was a bit confused at first, now I understand - I had wrongly assumed you'd all enjoy opera, the classical buffs here that is. I'm surprised but not surprised I guess. However, comparing opera to a musical or a show ? . . . hmmm, well I guess that's very subjective, but there's no comparison at all from my perspective, not even in the same ball park. No takers for the Verona Opera at the arena then? And it's confirmed one thing for sure, you definitely are a bunch of wimps

Ah, Barenboim's Mahler 5th, that's more like it!

Opera - there's only 3 I enjoy. Philip Glass's Akhnaten Handel's Xerxes and to a lesser extent Mozart Magic Flute
I suspect my views are very similar to Martin's, with the corollary that I love (most of) Gilbert and Sullivan operettas!

Ah, Barenboim's Mahler 5th, that's more like it! I played the Bernstein 5 yesterday I think I'll keep my opera likes tucked away amongst my country and Americana likes, so as not to cause any offence

It'll go nicely in your line dancing section.

Verona - yes, because I've always wanted to go there. I used to have a Laserdisc of Tosca there and it was tolerable.
My linking of opera, musicals and shows is quite logical to me. They all involve singing-stories and I don't want my stories sung. People don't burst into song in real life.

Verona is gorgeous, been to the Arena but not for an opera, it's on my bucket list. I can totally relate to musicals and shows as I'm not a fan either, by my brain doesn't compute lumping opera in with those. But every cloud has a silver lining, should you and Jerry ever darken my door and overstay your welcome, I know how to scoot you off now

I'm having another crack at Prokofiev. If Sviatoslav Richter can't manage to convince me in the piano sonatas then nobody can.
Persistence is the key for me, here. I'll be darned if the danged things aren't starting to grow on me!

I've seen two Ring Cycles, both on TV; I even got my late wife watching with me, and Wagner was not her cup-of-tea at all as a rule.
