I can't see your pics, friston. -- ooops, friston is deleted? _____ Chamber music (violin sonatas, piano quintet) composed by Wilhelm Furtwangler - much better known as a conductor! -- it really is very good! -- loved this.

What happened with Friston? Certainly wasn't us.

He huffed when an irrelevant post was made on a recent Strauss thread of his. Shame.

Shame indeed. Why couldn't he just get over it (was it a joke?) and move on?

Bach - The Art of Fugue and Musical OfferingI bought this primarily for Musical Offering and it's superb, but so is the rest of the 2CD set. Thanks for the recommendation, Jerry.

A bit of a Beethoven 9th symphony binge for me yesterday .... -- superb first 3 movements, but the choral finale got a bit squally and raucous with somewhat distorted sound. But the finale is a bit of a rumpty-tump crowd-pleaser when played with Stokowski's over-exuberance, anyway. Then .... Wow, wonderful performance and recording.

I'm having a review of my LP collection at the moment with a view to kicking out the less than stellar condition ones and the ones I just don't want to play. Quite a few are getting cleaned as I go. Hopefully this will result in a slimline collection that I can confidently dip into without having any worries or hassle.
Currently playing - and staying! - is a marvellously clean copy of this ...
And now this, ahhh perfection ...

-- exquisite! -- LP -- a bit of a curiosity. Quite a small scale performance of this mighty work - sounds more like a chamber ensemble - less impact but you can really hear what is going on in the orchestration, more than I ever realised!

Sorry for the large picture! Abbey Simon's complete solo piano works for Ravel ... one of the finest sounding performances of these works IMHO. I've got this on CD and on the original VOX Turnabout vinyl, which sounds even more realistic than the digital.

Have you heard that Tabuh-Tabuhan on the Mercury Living Presence recording with Howard Hanson? I think that may be the first stereo recording of that work ... the LP is a TAS list recording.

Just picked up a copy of the London blueback FFSS release of that ANsermet on vinyl for pretty cheap ... nice performance and sound!
