Jerry, if it was you who recommended Einaudi to me, could you suggest another album or two please?

Mmm - probably not me Martin, a 3 minute track on Classic FM is OK, but I really can't take much more than that! A bit too fluffy for me. ____ LP -- a folkier take on the Auvergne songs orchestrated by Canteloube. Really quite lovely, after the rather too soppy 1st track! Followed by the rather more challenging 2 Bate symphonies ... CD

Opp 130 & 131 from this CD set -- -- recorded in the early 1960s, but still the best of them all imo. Had to be something completely different after that -- Then a few Mozart Requiems ... -- Bohm, a long-time fave of mine, but I'd forgotten how slow it is! CD -- much more pep & vim, but less spirituality. Makes the Bohm sound like the love child of the Mozart Requiem and a Bruckner symphony! CD -- mmm, nah - gave up on this as a bit boring.

This rather special Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone

Tastes differ, as ever! I just couldn't get on with that YoYo / Morricone recording! LP -- one of the very first major classical Decca Phase 4 recordings. Stokie is a bit too excitable, and doesn't really relax into the sentimental bits, which is a shame. Interesting, though. CD -- one of the better recordings I have heard. I do like Goodman's conducting. CD -- coo, quite bowled over by the symphony - despite a load of negative reviews on Norrington's efforts, I enjoyed it immensely! probably goes to my Numero Uno for the RVW 2nd.

CD -- one of the better recordings I have heard. I do like Goodman's conducting. Are they more together than their godawful recording of Beethoven's 9th (a very early CD)?

Ha! - well, I don't recall the 9th, but Goodman's Eroica is one of the very best I have heard. I did have the complete Nimbus set but sold it and kept only the 3rd symphony, so that probably tells us what I thought of the 9th! Yes, they are together in the Mozzie Req.

Vivaldi - Four Seasons, Drottningholm, BISStill my favourite Four Seasons. Played at Speedy Steve's yesterday, where the continuo organ sounded superb from his tapped bass horns and the strings had attack and bite from the rest of the range.

Nice one, Pinch.
Quite possibly the best set of all, imo. Shame it was recorded before quartets 14 & 15 were composed!

I don't have any basis for comparison - it's the only set of these that I have - so good to know it's rated so highly Is there a recording of 14 and 15 that you'd recommend?

Nice. That recording must be from the very early 1970s then?

I can only narrow it down to 'sometime before 1974', since it's original Borodin line-up, but unfortunately the liner notes don't offer much info on the recordings themselves :/
