Come on all you classsical fans, we have a classical Album Choice this month and need you all to have a listen and vote please! If you don't, we run the risk of never having a classical album chosen again and that would be a great shame!
Listen & Vote
Thank you!

Poulenc - Stabat Mater, Gloria, Piquemal, Orchestra de la Cité
A recent purchase from Jerry, always nice to have another version of the Stabat Mater, can never have too many! The French always play Poulenc so well, this is a nice performance although not getting to the heart-wrenching intensity of the Lagrange/Lyon/Harmonia Mundi.

As said previously i just cant seem to get into classical music. there is stuff ive heard and like... Strauss - Blue Danube waltz Beethovens - 9th Rossini - William Tell overture Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries But i find the vast majority of classical to be very boring indeed.

Have you tried Isao Tomita or Wendy Carlos? Perhaps you'd prefer those interpretations as a way in?

CD - Bach transcriptions for piano. All are good, the Chaconne is superb - he really goes for it, tumultuous!
CD ... the ultimate chill music? ...
And some LP listening over the last few days ...

I don't have a single religious cell in my body but this particular recording of this work is so much a part of the soundtrack of my childhood that it would probably have to be one of my desert island discs. The commonly available version of it with Placido Domingo is awful in comparison. A view I share with the blogger who provided the image below ( www.saindodamatrix.com.br/mob/archives/2007/03/musicas_raras_e_1.html ) Ariel Ramirez - 'Misa Criolla', performed by Los Fronterizos.

Mahler: Symphony No 2 'Resurrection' - Brieley Cutting, Angela Turner, Stephen Emmerson & Stewart Kelly 2014 Gustav Mahler's massive second symphony which took six years to complete. This recording is startling to the ears, instead of an enormous orchestra it has been arranged for two pianos and eight hands. This double duet version by Heinrich von Bocklet, was published in 1914 soon after Mahler's death. As far as the performers are aware, this is the first recording made for two pianos. Wonderful (if you like Mahler that is?).

I need no introduction to the 2nd, but that is a performance I haven't heard. Is it on Spotify or anywhere else online, Tim?
