I've been interested in audio for many years but never had the time or finance to really pursue the hobby in earnest. At a rather late stage in my life (I'm not telling you how late) I can now devote more energy to it.
Started out with a Pioneer amp and turntable with Wharfedale speakers that never really satisfied. Decided to upgrade to a pair of DIY transmission line speakers called the Daline and a NAD 3020. The NAD was not really up to it so built a DIY amp based on ILP modules. This lasted me for over 20 years. The speakers were really the star. Everyone wondered how they could be so big (36 inches tall) and yet have such tiny drive units (a KEF B110, Peerless Ko10DT and Coles supertweeter). They could'nt really go loud but the midrange was superb.
The amp looked a bit agricultural by now so upgraded to Audiolab 8000P and 8000Q. Speakers then looked a bit tatty in comparison so upgraded to more DIY efforts with a pair of Zaph SR71s. Smaller in size but unfortunately took quite some time to get right. Along the way added a Marantz CD50SE and sold the turntable. Also added various incarnations of Beresford DACs starting with the 7510 and progressing to 7520Caiman and now Caiman SEG. Recently replaced the Marantz with a Cambridge CXC CD transport.
Next project is to replace the Audiolabs with an Elliott P101 power amp and maybe an Elliott preamp. Not totally decided yet. Also have a Xonar STX 2 sound card and Sennheiser HD600s with a DIY Elliott P113 headphone amp.

Hi Richard,
Welcome to the forum, looks like you’ve had an interesting Hifi journey. I had a Cambridge Audio CXC with a Caiman SEG prior to my recent streamer purchase, and it was quite remarkable for the minimal outlay.

Hello Richard and welcome to TAS Bloody hell, I remember the Daline well and nearly built them. The only reason I didn't was that I acquired a pair of Cambridge R40 cabinets (liquidated stock) and completed them myself. So the KEF B110 connects the two speakers.

I listen to a variety of music but its mostly classical or pop from the 70s - quite predictable really. I did like the Dalines despite their limitations but their size and appearance were not liked by my wife. Does that sound familiar?
