Guitarmeister Uli John Roth talks about his classical inspiration for the opening of ‘The Sails of Charon’, an early Scorpions tune. A great video clip follows - my god this guy can play, just so fluid and effortless … I never knew that before Scorps he was just playing classical and had barely touched an electric!

Yes I'm not surprised to see him playing that particular work Paul - think he gets a bit carried away with the old vibrato at times though!
I'd like to explore more of his early work - do you have any recommendations? I got into the Scorpions in their early 80's heyday after he had left so was always a bit off my radar ...

Not really, Jules. I'm more of a fan of his guitar playing than of the band if that makes sense.

Actually tbh I was thinking about his early solo work and Electric Sun, not the early Scorpions ...
