I would like to hear people's thoughts on what developments they would like to see gear manufacturers or software and record companies pursuing in the future.
Any thoughts?

We've seen just how much mains pollution and RFI issues can affect our hi-fi components. I'd like to see more care and attention in the designs to help components be more immune to such pollution. After all, with more use of powerline ethernet and 3G/4G/wi-fi radio than ever before, it isn't going away in a hurry.

I would like to see record companies taking more care over their vinyl releases in terms of mastering and pressing.

Ideally, it would be improved at both ends - at the audio gear and at the devices that spew it all out in the first place. But is there any other field where this noise affects performance? If not the makers of the transmitting stuff aren't really going to be too motivated to improve this for us (a tiny bunch of music obsessed wierdos who care about such arcane nonsense).

I would like to see record companies taking more care over their vinyl releases in terms of mastering and pressing. Not half! I haven't bought a new record for years because of exactly that problem.

Less bollox and more honesty. Less bling and more quality. Is anyone sensing a theme yet?

Joined up thinking in all areas. Learn from previous mistakes. Build quality into the products.
For kit mains is one area, as Martin says above. Mains improvements probably more than one area. Have a look around at what accessories sell and build that into the product or sell with it
For the music industry make music better. Keep an eye on where the market is going before losing your collective shirt

There are plenty of smaller labels doing a great job but the major labels need to really up their game and be more concerned about quality rather than going for an easy buck ... Of course there are some exceptions - Deutsche Grammophon for one does a very good job with contemporary recordings on vinyl and doesn't charge the earth for them.

But is there any other field where this noise affects performance? It does affect the performance of wi-fi as I have found out through experience. However, the vendors are just as likely to turn the transmit power up as to try to solve it properly.

Recordings that aren't mixed and mastered for loudness wars.
Are you hearing me, recording engineers for Coldplay?

Indeed that has been one of the biggest crimes perpetuated on audio.
