Hi. Just wondered if you knew if Mark Manwaring White was still at Ming Da UK? I have the same preamp and as you probably know the original circuitry has issues in the bass department. I think someone at some time measured it 9dB down in the bass region. Thanks.

Hi Rob, good to hear from you here, how are you finding the Plinius amp old chap? Hey Jules, Good to hear from you too and hope you've been keeping well. The Plinius is excellent in my experience, I love it! Best amp I've ever owned. I would describe it as a true piece of hifi equipment in that it amplifies the source, without hindering it, or getting in the way, so you really hear the music, without smearing, coloration etc, effectively, it lets the source shine. I find it a delineation champion, so all the individual parts and layers are laid bare, accurately, as I say not smeared or merged into each other. Balanced, dynamic, and cohesive across the frequency range, insightful, with depth and a natural degree of warmth, class A/B, but biased heavily to the class A side, very tight weighty bass, effortless power delivery at 200 wpc @ 8 ohms. They dont come up often here for 230v, on the used market, but a bargain whenever they do. I'm about to put a post up asking if anyone knows where in the UK services Plinius as I want it maintained to last as long as I do Nice one Rob, the Plinius sounds like a great find, just the kind of thing I'm looking for at the moment actually ... Did you move on the old Sansui amp? I see you finally gave in and got a phono stage too - I'm sure that must have been a good upgrade ...

Thanks. Finally noticed them. Another PM forgot to add Mark changes the valves as well don't know which. I did introduce him to 6N2P EV OS Russian valves only used in spacecraft I replaced 2 x Mullard CV 4004 with the OS in my Croft Phono they are that good but rare now.

Did you move on the old Sansui amp? I see you finally gave in and got a phono stage too - I'm sure that must have been a good upgrade ... The Plinny is wonderful and just what I wanted and hoped for, I'm certainly not alone www.audioreview.com/product/amplification/integrated-amplifiers/plinius/9200.html The Sansui is up for sale, it is rare, beautiful and sounds good, I've thoroughly enjoyed it, the four years I've had it, but it cant compete with the 9200. Indeed, the Aurorasound Vida Prima is a cracking bit of kit, like the Plinny, it is honest and truthful and allows the cart to show it's prowess - regarded as a bit of a bargain, considering what these things can cost. It will be all most audio folk will need, which I've read and have to agree, based on my own experience, quality thing. highend-electronics.com/products/aurorasound-vida-prima-phono-stage#:~:text=This%20is%20a%20very%20truthful,from%20your%20thoughts...%22 I'm work from home or in office throughout the week, busy evenings, and weekends in Kent, as I have senior folk to support, but you dont need to hear the Plinny. I didnt hear one, neither the Aurorasound, PD-91, Cadenza Black, or the Spendors, took a punt based on informing myself and trusting the gut instinct and all are fab. The current Plinius Hautonga replaced the 9200 and is, I'm led to believe, pretty much an 'improved' 9200, you may be able to get a listen to one from a dealer. Note, they like to be left on, so do not judge one from cold, only after days on, as a minimum - BIG difference in what you'll hear and appreciate.

This has changed abit for me since i last posted, not much, but some.
Analogue main system :
Oracle delphi mk1, sme 309, vm750sh
Jbe series 3 slate, cx jewel bearing unipivot, dynavector dv20x2l
Jvc ql-y5f, rigb bodied at440mlb with vmn40ml stylus
I use the oracle and the jbe, my wife uses the jvc
Phono stages main system :
Cole lcr (oracle and jbe, converted it to a switchable 2 input setup) and project something for the jvc
Amplification main system :
Nelson pass b1
Nelson pass f5
Digital main system :
Wiim mini streamer
Topping e30 dac
Cyrus cd7
Speakers:
Fane 15-300tc aperiodic loaded cabinets, washing machine sized
Doesnt get used an awful lot to be honest...
Second system upstairs out of the way...
Analogue:
Jvc ql-y3f, vm750sh
Phono stage:
Benedict audio hothead
Amplification:
Myryad z40 headphone amplifier
Digital
Second wiim mini
Jds labs el dac 2+
Headphones:
Hifiman sundara, hifiman deva, b&w p7
Gets used a bit more than the 'main' system does, i put more money into it than i intended, but i enjoy it so who cares.
Both wiim minis are using tidal, standard resolution, no hi rez here, just controlled via my phone.
Nothing fancy, well maybe you could call the oracle fancy i suppose.
I had a change of heart on the oracle, it was underwhelming until i sat it in a 30 kg slate slab. Then it made sense. so i decided to buy it.
I have however lost pretty much all interest at the moment, a change of job, hours and circumstances mean that making time sit in front of it is very difficult. But its not going anywhere for when the interest comes back.
I also have a xerxes with a tabriz, an sl150, a lenco and some other bits and bobs hanging around for when the urge to do something returns. At least some of it is worth a few quid...

Fro,
I'm presuming your 2007 speakers were Wilson?
Which model and how did you get on with them?
