Earlier this afternoon I learnt the sad news that John Bamford passed away last night after a long battle with cancer
John was an industry stalwart for the best part of four decades, John had aabeen editor of some of the UK's top audio publications as well as a long tenure with Pioneer GB and in the last deacde a well respected reviewer for Hifi News.
Above all that John was a good friend and throughly decent kind hearted individual who' love of music was infectious as was his humour!
He never let his illness get him down even when he was at a low ebb one of the few decent chaps in this business, the industry has lost a great ambassador and very knowledgeable gent, we have lost a good friend best wishes to his close family
John Bamford RIP 2018

I always enjoyed reading his articles, he didn't seem to ride any bandwagons and just enjoyed the music. Sad loss to the audio industry.

What really sad news.
I will always remember him as Deputy Editor of Hi-Fi Answers/The Audiophile. He always seemed to do his own thing. I remember him using an Audio Technica Soundburger in the office, which he showed in his profile picture in the Q & A section for a while. He was, of course, really enthusiastic about The Rock turntable, which was his preferred deck.
Either last year, or the year before, I did a search for him, wondering what he might be doing. I found a profile and learned he was still committed to vinyl, and The Rock turntable - and Pioneer. I did think he looked a bit frail.
Really sad news.

Sad news. Am I mistaken or did I see him grooving along to Deep Purple in one of Tony's rooms at the NW HiFi Show a few years back?

Hi Chris
You did indeed see him with us in 2015 I got to know him around 10 years ago.
He was great friends with Max T as well.
After he got the all clear the first time ( three years ago) he starting collecting high reolution recordings and was making a reference library which was his love, he had always felt that DVD-A would be the reference standard from was back from the turn of the century
Many fond memories of John doing his own thing
He will be sadly missed
