I was looking at the latest SMSL products today online and have noticed that prices are no longer bargain basement cheap.
Of course due to their popularity these prices were never going to hold. Also they seem to be releasing more mid and higher end products now.
That's not to say they no longer represent good value but now I think it would definitely be sensible to look at a wider range on the market and see if there are any new kids on the block ...

Q5 on Ebay for £76
up to £200 though so maybe ....

My M3 is now going for £75-100. I paid 40 something ...
The Q5 is £118 on Amazon and on ebay they are generally 100+. and up to 200 as you say!

The top-end prices have been there for a long time, it's the lower "bargain" prices that are vanishing for some reason. The likely explanation is that that SMSL have increased their unit price to retailers. The M8, in the Ali Express SMSL official Store, is priced at ￡194.82, the M3 is £65.46, and the Q5 is £109.10 which is about what the "official" prices have always been iirc.

Maybe a few box shifters stocked up and had to sell on
Amazon were about £110 when I bought on Ebay for £70 odd

I've just had a look back, and I bought my Q5 on eBay for £65.99 last November. My SMSL Sanskrit 6TH DAC was £79.99 just over a year ago from eBay, they're out of production now but they are priced at £90.99 on Amazon, £109.82 0n eBay, and £84.16 on Ali Express. I'm not sure about this new product for ￡1,013.09, something about it seems a bit fishy...  |
