For my small business, around 5-6 pcs - some with old Operating Systems - yes I know I should trade up !
AVG has become bloated and slow
Avast recommended by some
Went off Sophos many years ago
Any others ?
MS Essentials if you have W7 or W8 of course

We still have XP and W2k ! We've talked about this! Yes, Avast seems ok, we have a few students using it.

I am finding Avast is becoming more bloated and is now regularly sending messages telling you to remove 'problem' browser add on's or update programs. Getting annoying and my computer is getting very slow to boot in spite of removing everything I don't need from startup. Thinking of wiping everything and installing the Windows 8 upgrade I put aside.

If you do upgrade, Paul, the built-in Defender in W8 (=Microsoft Security Essentials) does a good job. Combine it with a monthly Malwarebytes scan and you should be fine - and it won't cost you anything. It's not generally understood that W8 is far more resistant to attacks than W7 in the first place.

Gloom about Avast. That's how AVG went.
I'm looking at our whole setup, hopefully Monday to see if upgrading PCs might be the very best way, maybe even cost justifiable just on virus software

Mike Not sure what support for earlier os versions is like but I have used Nod32, which was always good - caught the nasties and didnt slow the PC. However I used Webroots anti-spyware offering and have for the last 18 months just used their Secure Anywhere product across 3 PC's and found it really first class. When I suspect a teenager has succeeded in loading something dodgy from the dubious sites they frequent, I find Malwarebytes a good free cleanup tool
Hope that helps (wink smilie)

I think it cost me about £50 for 3 licences for 2 years for webroot last time. I use malwarebytes free as i only use it to de-louse the teenagers activities on home pc's webroot link

I still use avast
I agree its become bloated but if you spend time tuning it you can still get it paired back to near original slickness. I have win7 on the networked machine but I've never looked at the inbuilt stuff..there's a job to add to the list of things to do, thanks for the heads up.
I have win8 on the studio machine but it's not connected and most of the default processes are removed. I've never bothered to even think about virus software and scan imports on another machine before transferring..I hope I'm ok with this one and rely on faith.
