I have used 102db sensitivity horn speakers with a good MOSFET amp of over 200w output. The power rating of the speakers was only 40w, but the levels achieved under dynamic conditions (i.e., playing music) were incredible.

IMHO and experience, headroom is key to an excellent sound. This is key to my argument. Provided they are good quality, and to paraphrase horribly the old American car adage, "there ain't no substitute for cubes watts".

My fav amp in the whole wide world is only 20 watter, can't even use that more than 10 o'clock, god forbid if i had higher efficiency speekerz.
