Nobody will likely give an honest answer here. It's good to know that you think your fellow members are a pack of liars. Very refreshing. Would you care to rephrase that please? I have rephrased the comment. On reflection it read differently than intended. No offence meant and not referring specifically to forum members but the upgraded PS industry.

is another one of those contentious hifi subjects where you can spend hundreds and thousands for what appears to be tens of pounds of material .
Should an item for sale only be valued on " the cost of materials " ?

As a Marxist , I believe the search for surplus value [ cf Capital Vol 1 ] is the primary mechanism and driving force of commodification and I believe that this is the primary reason for the state we are in .

I see, but we do not live in a Marxist world. So, how do you cope with the Marxist philosophy when you go shopping, for example ? Genuine question, not a wind up.

Not sure I understand the question . The world is how it is , I didn't make it and alone I am incapable of changing it . Not sure how my social theory on how societies are made and reconstitute themselves would inform my purchase of bog roll ?

OK, it sounded familiar ! What I suggested will make an improvement, an external PSU probably not. So for a £5 spend you win ! Dave Cheap is good, thanks Dave ... How long would doing the FC cap and pots take? I'd need to find somebody I trust to do the work for me - About an hour, maybe two if getting it apart was an issue. It's an old turntable, I don't know who would do it.......... Regards Dave

It might help us recommend you a repairer if we knew where you were located ?
EDIT. I see it's on your profile, don't know anyone in that area.

Just briefly reviving this thread - I've finally laid my hands on a suitable PSU for my deck. Arrived in a near cryogenically frozen state from the courier, so giving it plenty of time to adjust to room temperature before firing up. Anyway it's got a monster transformer, lots of upgraded components etc We'll see how it sounds - it's an itch I've been wanting to scratch for a while. Will post thoughts and more details on my blog thread once I've spent a bit of time with it ...
