Hi
Question, has anyone on here successfully cleared a very badly scratched dustcover. I picked up a very cheap GL75 and the lid is in shocking condition, however it has no crack or chips and would be a shame to throw it out if it can made to look presentable?
cheers Stewart

Hi Stewart, I agree and think it's definitely worth a go! My lid wasn't badly scratched but I ended up getting an excellent result from using a headlight restorer which removed all the 'fogginess' and made it crystal clear ... I think you will need something more substantial though - have a look here at the suggestion posted in the thread that I started on the subject last year - theaudiostandard.net/post/116922/thread

Start with Brasso and then move on to the headlight restorer.

Alternatively, you could take it to someone who does sandblasting and have the whole thing 'properly' fogged over. I saw this done with an otherwise unrecoverable Michell Mycro plinth and lid and I thought it looked good and rather unique. They can use alternative materials to sand that are more gentle on the object being treated.

My S/H Technics 1210 lid was in poor shape, not chipped or cracked but fogged. I used a cream cleaner first, then Brasso and finally headlight restorer. It came up really well. If you have one I'd use or maybe even buy an orbital buffer, as it does take an awful lot of elbow grease. I spent many hours doing it over a number of days cos I'm cheap!

Yes Mike, something like JIF - I used a simple (cheap) Tesco cream cleanser to start off with
