The title says it all. I'm not quite brave enough to hit the 'Buy It Now' button to find out for certain though. I'm guessing it's a hijacked account, but it's been around for a few days now, and eBay usually manage to shut these things down quite quickly. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EF-50mm-f-1-8-STM-lens-canon-50-1-8-STM-/263698223882It's much less than half-price, and I'll be very annoyed (with myself) if it turns out to be genuine as I've got this lens as a saved search, and the email alert from that search is how I came across the vendor in the first place. So far the user has no feedback on the sale of these lenses though, despite what appears to be a lot of sales. In fact, the seller has received only two pieces of feedback within the last year. I know I'm rambling on a bit, but the general idea of this post is to show just how easy it is to be tempted by some "too good to be true" items on eBay, especially when the pricing is almost, but not quite, outrageously low. If they were selling for £25.00 I'd "know" it was a con, but they're just about believable to that part of me that wants one of these lenses. Caveat emptor trumps carpe diem though. Well, this diem it does, anyway.

Checking the sellers history reveals no past history of camera gear, so must be a scam.

Those were my thoughts. 99.9% of everything the vendor has sold prior to this has been clothing. It does sort of "scream" scam when you take the time to put all the pieces together. I've got a 50mm Yonguo, and it's a bit 'plasticky' but quite serviceable. "She" has now sold 71 of these lenses, 53 in the last 24 hours. Interestingly, there are now 76 watchers, including me. That's a lot of people trying to decide whether it's a fiddle or not.

50 1.8 just one of the best lenses you can buy for the money. It's only 50mm on a full frame camera.
On most Canon cameras (like my EOS 40d) it's the equivilant of an 80mm lens.
Focal length x 1.6.

Focal length x 1.6.Yep, I'm aware of that, and that's why I use it. I use either a 50 or 90mm for portraits.

I wouldn't trust that - it's either a scam or they're knocked off, I'd say.

Well, my immortal soul, if it exists, is almost certainly already damned, so "knocked off" I could live with.

PayPal should protect you. Indeed. I did report the item as a fraudulent sale and I see Ebay have now withdrawn the listing. There is going to be a bit of paperwork needed to sort out the mess when everyone's lens don't turn up.

eBay have to have the most impenetrable support structure of any of the big vendors. It's almost impossible to speak to a human or get anything other than boilerplate responses to messages.

The lenses were sold out before eBay yanked the ad.
