Krebber's famous Brahms violin concerto with Haitink conducting doesn't seem to be on Spotify, but it can be had quite cheaply on Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/Brahms-Violin-Concerto-Tragic-Overture/dp/B00000E3X2/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1525680497&sr=1-1&keywords=krebbers+brahmsEDIT: Just found the 1st movement of the Haitink recording on YouTube You can also hear him perform the work on YouTube in a 1964 recording with a provincial orchestra. For such a highly respected violinist, he recorded very little as a solo artist. Of course, he was the concert master (lead violin) of one of the world's great orchestras, the Amsterdam Concertgeboow, for decades and therefore appeared on very many recordings where a solo violin part is required. A YouTube search on 'Herman Krebbers' does bring a a fair bit of older solo material. Another YouTube item shows him holding a masterclass.

Probably my fave recording of his was in Rimsky Korsakov's Scheherazade, where the concert master gets many opportunities for solo playing, and hugely gorgeous it is, too.

The Brahms / Haitink is an all time favourite of mine - Krebbers just tears into it ... so much passion yet control at the same time, mesmerising ...
I don't know this Scheherazade but will listen for sure - in my top three favourite works, and must be worth it for the violin alone!
I will quote from my newly acquired 1984 Penguin Guide which gives it a top 3 star rating -
Kondrashin's version with the Concertgebouw Orchestra has the advantage of marvellous recorded sound, combining richness and sparkle within exactly the right degree of resonance. Here the personality of Krebbers very much enters the picture, and his gently seductive portrayal of Scheherazade's narrative creates a strong influence on the overall interpretation ...
There then follows more glowing words about it.
I'm buying!

jandl100 - if you know of any other great recordings where Krebbers is featured in this way I would be very interested to know!

jandl100 - if you know of any other great recordings where Krebbers is featured in this way I would be very interested to know! Hmm. Orchestral works with a major solo violin part, but not a concerto. The first that came to mind was Tchaik's Swan Lake ballet - some amazing solo violin bits in there. But the Concertgebouw (with Krebbers as 1st violin, so he would likely get that part) doesn't seem to have recorded the work, that I can find at any rate. Surprising. Or maybe I am not looking hard enough.

Sincere thanks to the boy Jerry for bringing Kondrashin's Scheherazade to my attention. Played and enjoyed from start to finish. Once I heard the opening brass I knew this would be a recording for me. Utterly sumptuous and ravishing with jaw dropping dramatic tension; as soon as I can find a decent affordable vinyl copy it will be mine.

Whilst I certainly do appreciate Krebber's wonderful solo violin playing in the Beethoven and Brahms concertos, I find studio-Haitink a bit earthbound.
I've heard Haitink conduct Mahler 2 live at a Prom, ooo must have been 40 or so years ago. My God - it was cataclysmic. I rushed out afterwards to buy the Philips recordings - what a disappointment, drab and humdrum in comparison. Which is how I genertally find his recordings of that era.
That Scheherezade with Kondrashin remains my favourite Krebbers recording. I wish he'd recorded some chamber music, I bet that would have been special, too.

Interesting thoughts Jerry.
I actually have Haitink's Scheherazade and it is a very fine Philips recording, however, it will surely be supplanted by the Kondrashin as my go-to version.

The Kondrashin Sheherezade is magnificent and I don't say that lightly. What a performance!
The Philips recording is not too shabby. Spotty even gives me the quality of the tape hiss.
