I've just read on the HDD (AVI) forum that it seems Shure will be bringing cartridge manufacture to a close this year. if true, a real shame as I loved the restrained tones of the M97XE which remained a great hundred quid's worth as competitors like the Nagaoka MP110 have gone from little more than a today's AT95EX priced cartridge to now £140 or so over time.. Shure could have had a good market with replacement styli for their most popular models too, but didn't sadly.

Inevitable, but seems just a little premature. I presume their microphone production now hugely outweighs cartridges?

I'm often surprised that they were able to keep producing cartridges during the 'dark ages' of record players.

They had bad quality control problems, you can read this between the lines as well. I suspect they didn't want to further invest.
Archivists loved them and one attempted to buy 50 this afternoon.
