Great story here on Facebook about the perils of mobile phones at classical concerts ... I couldn't agree more. I had to sit next a guy texting his way through the stellar Argerich / Maisky / Jansen concert recently at the Barbican. Just don't understand it in the least ...

There should be prominent notices stating that the use of mobile phones, for ANY purposes is not allowed within the confines of the concert hall. Yes, I know that shouldn't be necessary, but it obviously is. Apart from anything else I'm sure that filming i.e. 'bootlegging' a concert is dodgy. Some artists even have a clause in their contracts to state that this must be 'policed' at the venue.

I've never seen anyone filming a classical concert in London I must say - I think that staff would spot that and do something about it ...
There are generally notices about phones at the start of the concert, but there are always some urchins who believe that they are special enough for this not to apply to them!
I do wish that they would clamp down harder on people who have their phones on for texting or internet purposes - in a dark hall the lit up screen is just so distracting if it's near you.

Sometimes the orchestra or, in the case of the Proms, the audience will chant a warning to switch mobiles off.
I agree that using a mobile during a performance is the lowest of the low and I would have them ejected if I had the power. If looks could kill...

It's that sort of inconsiderate pleb behaviour that you see in so many places these days. Manners and reserve appear to have gone out of the window. It almost seems like any form of behaviour is as good as another.
It looks like "freedoms" and "rights" have gone way too far and few appear to care about responsibilities. Nothing I see in modern discourse suggests there is a way back. It looks like this sort of thing will only get worse.
I really don't like most aspects of modern society. Not everyone is bad mannered, but there seems little you can do in today's society without infringing some wrongdoers "rights".
