It is time to downsize my home, and while I have been able to pick and choose and part with much of my older audio components without too much heartache, here I sit looking at my Mirage M3si's, speakers my wife actually bought me when we got married (yes, I am a lucky man), and I do not know what to do. I agreed to sell my house with the home theater intact, yet the buyer cares not which tower speaker I leave behind. I own both a pair or Mirage M3Si's and a pair of Mirage OMD-28's. I really do not need them both. I need to choose.
I am not sure if I am looking for guidance, insight, condolences, or just writing a love letter. I will likely conduct listening tests from now until closing, and no doubt the OMD-28 will produce a larger soundstage and more base, maybe even more detail -- but not more passion. The M3si's have treated me well, and something about them still sounds balanced, exhilarting and fresh, 26 years later.

Maybe ChrisB could help here. He has M3si speakers, I believe?

Does the wife have any say in it?? They look like lovely speakers btw, good luck with a tough choice. In the end best to let the ears decide I've always found.

Keep them both and leave a pair of Tannoy or MS there

It sounds like you have a tough choice there! Although I have owned the M3si for quite a few years now, I've never heard another pair of Mirage speakers of any description, so I can't speak with experience. All I know is that I can't imagine ever being without mine.

In the long run, the ‘passion’ as you put it is what will be most important for you.

Other than the OMDs enabling you to tick a few describe-by-numbers boxes I can’t see much indecision in what you write. Unless you can keep both, it seems your decision is already made.
