And failed . . . here's part of the problem - grand total of 34 cables of different types. I'd also run out of mains sockets. So bought 2 19" 7 way rack mount strips, extended the mounting brackets so i could bolt them to the hi fi rack and started to tidy the cables. Thought I could try and keep mains from signal etc. but the logistics soon became impossible. So still a rats nest albeit with a couple of spare mains sockets and three cables less (as I dispensed with my never used HDMI embedder). So, got the two extension blocks in anyway . . . And then gave up - reassembled system and plumbed in my new Allo Digione to trial against my Raspberry PI / Digiplus board. More on that later. One thing these last few hours have taught me; 1) Don't try doing all this 2 weeks after a hip replacement ! 2) We need standardisation - so many plugs are too wide or too tall (esp with little SMPS wall warts / have leads coming from top or bottom / cables are far too stiff / moulded plugs are a pain when trying to trim leads to appropriate lengths. This all leads to an impossible task in trying to route things together. Best I could do was to keep SMPS plugs on one strip and proper mains plugs on t'other.

Top marks for effort there! I think we must all have struggled with this at some time or other.

Yes, it was a problem for me until I decided to move my rack sufficiently away from the wall that I stand a chance of getting behind there. Lots of untangling and natural draping later and it's not too bad.
Those rack mount strips do make things tidier but I agree that too many wallwarts break the rules for size, cable exit above/below/to the side etc.
Looking forward to your views on the DigiOne.

Big question is the order of importance - i.e. do I tidy the mains cables first then fit the others around them, or the network cables first, or the interconnects, or....
I'm convinced anyway that however good a job I make of tidying the wires, next time I look they've tangled themselves up again.

Since mains cables are the thickest, I try to lay them out on straight routes first and then work the interconnects in, trying to keep them from running alongside the mains cables (crossing over is ok).
