I leave my source components(Dac/cd & EQ)on 24/7, but switch off everything else off at night.

I leave nothing on. It sounds like it sounds from cold simples.

My main reason behind leaving the source components on is because the tv runs through the Hifi and powering on the active speakers or sub amp without the other stuff on causes huge thuds, so leaving the source gear on all the time prevents my wife switching stuff on/off in the wrong order.

On a slightly similar subject; does anybody else have a Sky Q box that constantly makes a processing noise, like it's constantly downloaded stuff? It's so annoying, that I turn the plug off every night now. Yes, I think it’s actually a hard drive spinning.

A difference I know, but during WW2 Bletchley Park (for runner of GCHQ) found that their massive valve computers kept blowing valves on switching on/off so to preserve the life of valves used and out of necessity, they decided to run powered up 24/7, there were personnel on hand to oversee of course. Now this isn't today's amps scenario etc., but made me think on the subject. For instance, why does a light bulb always blow on switch on ?
My system (SS) is left on 24/7, except for TT psu and phonostage , turning of just power amps when away for longer than a week. Equipment, such as, Freeview, recorders, PC modems, boiler, fridge and freezer, bedside radio alarm, timers are up and running all the time. I guess the answer depends on your equipment and you?

My PIT pre M50 P Pro is on 24/7 but he M100 Pro is turn of because it take over 100W on idle, and my PIT is solar powered. And I found with 3 dull days the battery does not charge enough. So at 10.85V the alarm sounds and at at 2.00AM the neighbour complain. Alarm yes music no, eh go figor.

I must be deaf now, although the geriatric gear I mostly use is immune to it all, but I only switch on when using and doff again after. The freshly made gear also sounds great once given a minute or so to initially stabilise and I can't hear a difference in the first few hours of use, although others claim a subsequent improvement over a few day's of 24/7 use. Even the CD player sounds pretty damned good right from the off although if I'm able, I'll give it half an hour before listening seriously. The old turntables can take ten minutes (Dual 701) and fifteen minutes (the idler confections here) for the electronics (701) and motors (everything else) to stabilise.
I first got to know of the 24/7 bit through Naim, and thirty years ago when still at home, my then Naims, then Nakamichi amps and later, the PDM1mk2 DAC and ARC SP14 were left on 24/7. I had to cover the led's over as my mother would switch everything off if I didn't. She claimed she'd saved over fifteen quid a quarter once I'd left home... The ATC and AVI stuff I used for some years after this didn't bother with 'warm up' at all as I remember as the ATC's warmed up in ten minutes or so, stabilising sonically thereafter.

Everything off...my system takes 15-20 mins to come into its best....and the listening before that is very acceptable, maybe a bit hard/bright to begin with...I'm using a Class D power amp which runs only lukewarm anyway approx 95% efficiency...
